Conversions

Many types of roof of both residential and commercial properties can be converted if sufficient height is available. This may offer an easier and more cost effective way to extend a property, increasing the area of the accommodation. Sometimes there will be little change to the external appearance of the original building.

Alternatively re-construction of a roof using room-in-the-roof type structure may be appropriate to add a further storey to the building.

Design & Engineering

Individual layout and aesthetic considerations vary. Design work is prepared in accordance with the client requirements and instructions, applicable regulations and always as far as possible to enhance to appearance of the building.

This type of work requires special attention to the structural support of the new work within the existing roof.

Structural calculations can be provided for the new beams and posts that will be required to transmit the loads of the new room construction safely to the building foundations. Beam and post calculations can often be carried out in-house as part of the project and within the fee estimate for the job.

More complex structural calculations would be passed to a consultant structural engineer, however this additional structural design work is often not required for residential properties.

Full construction details for the loft conversion, including complete floor and roof beam/joist/rafter layouts are supplied along with detailed calculation sheets.
