This work is carried out using conventional survey methods. This will include tape measurements, laser measuring, use of a level telescope and photography.
Site time will be not less than three hours. Extensive surveys may take much more.
Office time is then required to turn site measurements into plans, elevations and sections of the existing building.
This work is vital and needs to be accurate as it forms the basis or foundation of all the subsequent design work and construction drawing preparation.
It is also an opportunity for extensive knowledge of the existing building structure to be gathered. The architectural style of the building and the prevailing surrounding architecture can be noted.
It is important too to note the local topography, building orientation and views of the landscape available.
